Google Prostitute

Google got a feature "Spell Checker" which suggests a keyword that sounds more like the searched keyword and lot of people search for it. Which is cool, but not for everybody.

I have a friend who got a site proxyTuts.com. When he searches for "proxytuts" in Google see what he get as a suggested spelling http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=proxytuts&btnG=Search

Did you mean: prostitutes

My friend is not happy with his prostitute suggestion from Google, he wanna get rid of it. So he contacted Google and they said its pulled by the Google Algorithm they can't do anything manually to fix it; unless the site has at least 500+ pages indexed on Google. Anybody experienced with Google knows that takes a lot of time for most websites, and in this case my friend is stuck with his prostitute for a while.

Get Your Visitors Engaged Like ShoeMoney

No matter you got a blog or an e-commerce site getting visitors engaged with the site helps increase the loyal visitor count.

You can get the visitors engaged in many different ways. You can run a contest, give away something free, offer a free service and many other things.

I like one of the techniques blogger ShoeMoney does on his blog. He got a "Free Shirt Friday" event every friday. He recieves T-Shirts from different websites/companies and he wear them, take some pictures and post them as a blog entry. As an example I am posting this picture from ShoeMoney blog (hopefully he won't sue me for this)

Now that ShoeMoney is a reputable blogger and he earns a good amount of money from his blog; why he would spend all these effort taking pictures and making a blog entry? Answer is simple, building customer relations and getting visitors engaged.

Its always good to learn from people who already made the way up.

Are You Sick of DigitalPoint Forums?

This is an example of very aggressive marketing, one forum advertising on another competitor forum using AdSense.

Now lot of people would think its unethical. I have seen many different forms of marketing starting from business cards to thongs. This one is sort of on the extreme side where the ad text is saying "Sick of DigitalPoint?" and the ad is right on Digitalpoint.

Setting Blogger Blog and Google Apps With Domain

Recently a friend of mine asked me take a look at the problem. She have a blogger blog for a while now. Then she bought a domain name from Google and set it with Google API. And the whole thing wasn't working properly. She asked me for little help, and after spending several hours I found this solution.

* If you buy a domain from Google set with Google Apps they would set the DNS, MS and some other data for you. As a result your domain would point to the Google Apps webpages. Of course you don't want the domain point to Google Apps website.

So first thing to do is disable the web  pages from Google Apps.

* Then login to your blogger account.

Click on Settings for you blog.

Click on Publishing.

Click on Use Custom Domain. By default you will see the Buy Domain option. On the right side of it you will see the"Switch to Advanced Settings"; click on it.

Enter your domain name there and save.

Thats it.

Cuil Virus

Recently internet world talked about the launch of a new search engine, Cuil. It was launched by an ex-Google employee. It made the news big time, seem to be more then what it deserves. Many other search engines emerged in recent history, but none made that kind of news.

I am not going through the analysis if its any better then the existing search engines; I rather find it fascinating how successful their marketing campaign was. They been very successful making the launch news viral. Many bloggers, forums talked about it; it was also on the news media. Its just simply a nice example of a successful viral marketing.

The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection

This error may pop for your applications as you try to connect to the databse using SQL login. Why? When you installed the SQL database you probably have chosen the Windows Authentication only.

Selecting the authenticatuion tio "Sql Server and Windows Authentication" will solve the problem. Here is how:
- Select SQL server properties by right clicking on the SQL server.
- Click on Security

Unrecognized attribute 'xmlns'

You would receive this error for your application if you multiple versions of .Net installed and your .Net version for the application is not set right.

Solution:

- Launch IIS
- Go to the properties page for the application.
- Select "Asp.net" tab, and change the Target Framework to 2.0.
